Each profile lists experience, qualifications, and availability. Once you’ve found your match, book a time that suits you and pay securely through Guruu.
Treat a booking as a contract
Booking a Guruu means both sides agree to meet at the chosen time and deliver the session as described.
Booking Guruus for children
Learners under 18 must have an account set up by a parent or guardian. Guardians can access session recordings and are responsible for supervision.
What you can’t ask for
Certain services (like completing homework or offering medical or financial advice) aren’t allowed. See the full list in our Community Standards
How much does it cost?
Each Guruu sets their own rate. You’ll see the price upfront before booking, plus a small service fee and any required taxes.
How do payments work?
All payments are handled securely through Stripe. Guruu holds funds until your session is complete, then releases them to your Guruu.
Cancellations or changes
You can reschedule or cancel in your dashboard. Refunds depend on the Guruu’s cancellation policy — check their profile for details. Some Guruus accept requests for last-minute changes, while others do not. You can check your Guruu's preferences before booking. If your Guruu accepts last-minute changes, you can request another available time, but your Guruu must agree before the Booking changes. Submitting a request does not guarantee a reschedule. Until your Guruu accepts, your original Session remains confirmed, and its cancellation policy continues to apply. If your Guruu does not accept last-minute changes, you won't be able to request a reschedule within the applicable last-minute period. If your Guruu doesn't respond to your rescheduling request, your Booking remains confirmed for its original date and time unless your Guruu accepts the proposed change. If the request is declined or unanswered, you should still attend your originally scheduled Session or cancel it in accordance with the cancellation policy accepted when booking. An unanswered rescheduling request does not automatically cancel your Booking or entitle you to a refund.

Getting started
Guruu connects you with learners around the world who want to learn from your experience. It’s free to join, and you can teach from anywhere with an internet connection.
Creating your profile
Your profile is your shopfront. Add a great photo, a short bio, and a clear list of what you teach. Be genuine — honest profiles build trust and attract the right learners.
Setting your rate
You decide your hourly rate and availability. The minimum is AUD $25 per hour, but there’s no upper limit. You keep 85% of your session fee, minus Stripe’s processing fees.
How payments work
Learners pay in advance through Guruu. Funds are held securely until the session is complete, then released automatically to your account.
Video sessions
All sessions run through Guruu’s built-in video platform (powered by Twilio) — reliable, secure, and simple to use. Every session is recorded for safety and review.
Cancellations
As a Guruu, you can choose from three cancellation policies — Flexible, Standard or Strict — depending on what works best for you. Each policy has different cancellation deadlines and refund amounts. Your selected policy is displayed on your public profile so Learners can review it before booking. The policy agreed to when a Booking is confirmed will always apply to that Booking, even if you select a different policy later. You can change your cancellation policy in your account settings, but only when you have no active or upcoming Bookings and no outstanding Session earnings held by Guruu.  Once your completed Sessions have been settled and your earnings successfully transferred to your Stripe connected account, you can change your policy again. If you cancel a confirmed Booking, your Buyer receives a full refund, including the Booking Fee. Repeated cancellations may also affect your standing on Guruu. Remember, your cancellation policy protects both you and your Learners by making the terms clear before a Session is booked.
Changes to bookings
As a Guruu, you can choose whether you're willing to accept last-minute changes to Bookings. You can manage this preference in your account settings. If you accept last-minute changes, Learners may request another available Session time, but you are not obliged to accept every request. A Booking can only be rescheduled when the proposed change has been accepted by the relevant parties. If you do not accept last-minute changes, Learners cannot submit rescheduling requests within the applicable last-minute period. A rescheduling request does not automatically change or cancel a Booking. Until you accept the request, the original Session remains confirmed at its scheduled time, and the cancellation policy agreed to when it was booked continues to apply. If you decline a request or don't respond, the original Booking remains in place. An unanswered request does not automatically entitle the Buyer to a refund. If you cannot attend the original Session, you should cancel the Booking rather than assume a requested change has been accepted. The applicable Guruu cancellation and refund rules will then apply. 
Taxes & insurance
You’re an independent provider, not an employee. This means you manage your own taxes and insurance. See our Payment Policy for more detail.
Building your reputation
After each session, learners can leave a review. Positive feedback helps you attract more bookings and raise your rates over time.

How to get started.
Sign up for a free account on Guruu and choose whether you want to be a Guruu (tutor) or a user looking to learn. If you're sharing your expertise, be sure to upload a high-quality headshot to build trust and credibility.
How does it work?
Guruu makes learning easy in just five steps:
1. University students create a free Guruu profile, set their availability, and choose their pricing.
2. Learners sign up as users for free, browse tutor profiles, send messages, book sessions, and prepay.
3. Sessions take place through Guruu’s built-in video conferencing, with recordings available for replay.
4. After the session, users release payment to their Guruu.
5. Users leave a rating and review, helping Guruus build their reputation.
How do I pay?
Payment is taken at the time of booking and held securely until the session is completed. Once the session ends, users are prompted to release payment to their Guruu. For more details, visit our Help Center.

This helps ensure high-quality experiences by providing valuable feedback, allowing Guruu to recognise top-rated people and continuously improve the platform. How do I become a Guruu?
Sign up for a free account and select "Guruu" as your role. After verifying your email, you'll be guided through our onboarding process to set up your profile, add a photo and bio, and set your pricing and availability. When a learner books a session, you'll receive a confirmation email, and the session will be conducted via Guruu’s built-in video conferencing. Payment is released at the end of the session, along with a rating and review to help build your reputation.
