Guruu is redefining the way people share knowledge by giving experts the ultimate freedom to earn on their own terms. Guruus can teach from anywhere, set their own prices, and choose who they work with—turning their expertise into a flexible and rewarding career. Setting up an account is free, so if you have knowledge to share, why not get started?
For learners, finding the right expert is easy, with sessions delivered via Guruu’s built-in video conferencing—no need to travel or invite strangers into your home. It’s safe, convenient, and designed to make learning accessible to everyone.
Anyone can use Guruu to learn something new, with no minimum age for users who are here to learn something.
The minimum age to be a Guruu is 15 years old.
All users and Guruus under 18 must have their accounts set up by a parent or legal guardian.
For more details on how we manage all users aged under 18 years, visit our Younger Users Information page.
We’re committed to keeping Guruu an open and inclusive community. Learn more about our strict anti-discrimination policies by reading our Community Standards.
Creating a profile on Guruu is free and easy. Click the Sign Up button to get started.
If you’re signing up as a Guruu, you’ll need to provide details about yourself, your location, credentials, the topics you teach, your pricing, and your availability. The minimum age to become a Guruu is 15.
Learners only need to provide basic information, including their location (for time zone purposes) and contact details. Payments are processed securely through Stripe, and Guruu never stores credit card information. There is no minimum age requirement for learners.
The minimum age to create a profile is 18, as booking a Guruu involves entering a contract. However, parents or guardians can set up accounts for users under 18 by following the instructions here.
While parents and legal guardians are responsible for keeping children safe online, Guruu has implemented several features to help:
For more details, please refer to our Community Standards.
Yes, we take privacy seriously. Guruu uses secure systems to protect your information, and we’ve implemented measures to keep your data safe. For more details, you can review our Privacy Policy.
Yes, you can update most of your account details through your settings, except for a minor’s birth date under a parent or guardian’s account. Simply log in using the green Login button at the top-right of your screen and navigate to Settings. You can also update your password there.
All sessions are automatically recorded and can be downloaded by participants from their dashboards shortly after the session ends. To ensure access, we recommend saving recordings to your local device, as Guruu may delete older videos without notice to manage storage capacity.
For privacy reasons, recordings cannot be publicly shared or published without the written consent of all participants, except when shared with a parent or legal guardian of a minor. Violating this policy may result in account suspension or legal action. Unless submitted as evidence in a dispute, Guruu does not review session recordings.
Yes, Guruu contacts users primarily via email, always from an official @guruu.co address. You may also receive in-app messages. To verify an email’s legitimacy, check the sender’s address—it should always end in @guruu.co, with noreply@guruu.co being our most commonly used email.
Your security is our priority. To keep your account safe, remember:
Stay vigilant and reach out if you ever receive a suspicious request.
Never share your password. If you receive an email that seems suspicious, keep in mind:
If you're unsure about an email, contact Guruu support before taking any action.
Both users and Guruus can cancel a booking, but certain conditions apply. Each Guruu sets their own cancellation policy, so be sure to review it on their profile before booking. If a user cancels, any refund will depend on the Guruu’s policy.
Late cancellations may incur penalties, as short-notice changes can prevent Guruus from booking other clients. If a Guruu cancels a session, the user will receive a full refund.
We strongly discourage users from working outside of Guruu. Doing so means losing buyer and seller protections, as well as the many benefits our platform provides.
Guruu acts as a trusted middleman, ensuring Guruus are paid while helping them build strong reputations, which can lead to higher earnings and better search rankings. At the same time, learners are protected, ensuring smooth transactions without awkward money conversations.
For these reasons (and more), we recommend keeping all interactions within Guruu.
After a session, the learner is prompted to release payment and leave a review. If a Guruu has failed to meet agreed-upon expectations or has violated our community standards, the learner may dispute the payment.
Disputes trigger a mediation process, which Guruu resolves at its discretion. We may review session recordings to help determine the outcome, which is final and not open to further discussion.
Payment disputes are only allowed under specific conditions:
Guruus are expected to be truthful about their skills, arrive on time, and conduct sessions professionally. Likewise, learners must clearly communicate their expectations upfront. Simply being unhappy with a session is not grounds for withholding payment, but you can reflect your experience in your review, following our Community Standards.
Guruu is a user-funded platform. We charge a small service fee to learners and a commission from Guruus. This revenue helps us maintain and improve the platform, ensuring a seamless experience for all users.
Guruu is a platform where you can learn almost anything, with a diverse community of experts from all backgrounds. Who knows? One day, you might even become a Guruu yourself and share your own knowledge with others!
Before getting started, please note that there are restrictions on what you can ask Guruus to do. To understand these guidelines, review our Community Standards and familiarise yourself with our Terms of Use.
While there are no minimum age requirements for learners, we have special policies for users under 18. Users under 18 years old will need help from their guardian to onboard. To learn more, visit our Younger Users Information page.
For additional details, we recommend reading our General FAQs alongside the User (Learner) FAQs.
Guruu makes it easy to find the right expert for your needs. Simply use the search feature to type in a subject you’re interested in, and our system will match you with relevant Guruus. Take your time to read their bios, check their reviews, and reach out with any questions about their sessions.
Note: Messaging restrictions apply and are outlined in our Community Standards.
Effective communication is key to finding the right Guruu. You’re welcome to ask questions before booking to ensure they’re the right fit for you. However, all messaging must follow our Community Standards.
Spamming other users, including Guruus, is strictly prohibited. This includes sending mass messages, unsolicited offers, commercial promotions, abuse, or any content designed to direct users away from Guruu. Messages should be relevant to the Guruu’s profile and the knowledge they offer—please respect their time and privacy.
Users who violate these guidelines risk account suspension.
Take your time exploring different Guruus before making a booking. Each profile includes details about their skills, experience, and qualifications, along with reviews from other learners. Be sure to read their cancellation policy and feel free to message them with any questions or to clarify your expectations for the session.
Once you’ve found the right Guruu, select an available time slot on their calendar and book your session. You’ll pay upfront, but funds are securely held by Guruu until the session is completed, at which point your Guruu is paid.
Important: If you have specific expectations, communicate them clearly with your Guruu before booking to ensure agreement. Payment disputes cannot be made if expectations were not agreed upon upfront.
For more details on payments, see "Paying My Guruu" below.
When you book a Guruu, you’re entering into a contract where they agree to share their knowledge with you. Like any contract, both parties have expectations that should be agreed upon upfront.
You can expect your Guruu to be honest about their skills, experience, and knowledge, to show up on time, and to adhere to our Community Standards.
If you are under 18, you are not legally able to enter into a contract on your own. This is why a parent or legal guardian must set up your account. For guidance on this process, visit our Younger Users Information page.
While there is no minimum age for learners, we have special policies for users under 18. For more details, visit our Younger Users Information page.
If you're booking a Guruu for a child—such as a tutor for school support—we strongly recommend choosing Guruus who specify they work with children and are willing to provide government-issued ID for verification.
Guruu does not provide real-time session monitoring, so parents and legal guardians are responsible for supervising young children during sessions. However, all sessions are recorded and accessible via the child’s dashboard, allowing parents to review them afterward without violating Guruu’s privacy policy.
We have strict guidelines on content involving or targeting children. Please review our Community Standards and report any suspicious activity immediately to help@guruu.co.
While Guruu offers a wide range of knowledge sharing opportunities, certain services are not allowed due to legal, financial, or ethical risks. We also prohibit services that do not align with our values and policies. You can find a full list of prohibited services in our Community Standards.
Some restricted services include, but are not limited to:
For the safety and integrity of our platform, please ensure your requests comply with Guruu’s policies.
When you book a Guruu, you’ll pay the rate listed on their profile, plus a small service fee and any applicable taxes (such as GST or sales tax) as required by law.
Guruu does not process tax exemptions. If eligible, users should seek reimbursement from their local tax authorities.
All prices on Guruu are displayed in Australian dollars (AUD).
Guruu processes payments securely through Stripe, accepting all payment methods supported by Stripe. We do not see or store your credit card information on Guruu.
If a refund is issued, the funds will be returned via Stripe to the original payment method used.
Both users and Guruus can cancel a booking, but certain conditions apply:
Changing a Booking
To modify a session, go to Sessions in the top-right corner of your screen. You’ll find an option to reschedule your session on the right side of your booking.
After your session, you’ll be prompted to pay your Guruu and leave a review. You’ll have three options:
Pay Now – If you’re satisfied with your session, we encourage you to pay immediately so your Guruu isn’t left waiting.
Dispute Payment – If your Guruu violated our Community Standards or did not meet pre-agreed requirements, you may dispute the payment. However, simply being unhappy with the session is not a valid reason for a dispute. If you had specific expectations, they should have been clearly communicated and agreed upon beforehand. Disputes initiate a mediation process, during which Guruu may review session recordings. Once a decision is made, it is final.
Skip – If you need more time, you can skip payment temporarily. However, after 48 hours, funds will be automatically released to the Guruu unless a dispute has been lodged.
Guruu encourages both learners and Guruus to leave honest and independent reviews. Reviews help maintain the quality of our platform and assist other users in making informed decisions.
After your session is completed and payment is made, we encourage you to share your experience. Reviews should be genuine and free from pressure or coercion. If you feel pressured to leave a specific review, please contact us at complaints@guruu.co.
If you’re unhappy with your session, we recommend addressing your concerns directly with your Guruu during the session, if possible. This allows them to make adjustments to better meet your needs. If you choose to leave a negative review, ensure it is constructive and focuses on areas for improvement.
Reviews may be challenged or removed if they contain personal attacks, dishonest claims, or violate our Community Standards.
Guruu operates differently for users under 18, as they have not yet reached the legal age of consent to enter contracts. Booking a Guruu involves forming a contract, which is why all users under 18 must have their accounts created by a parent or legal guardian.
For young children (under 13 years old), it is already standard practice for parents or guardians to set up digital accounts. This requirement also applies to all users under 18 on Guruu.
There are no minimum age requirements for users wanting to learn something—many school-age children use Guruu for tutoring. However, if a young person wants to become a Guruu, they must be at least 15 years old due to legal work permit requirements in some jurisdictions.
Setting up an account for a user under 18 is simple. A parent or legal guardian must first create their own account before adding a younger user.
Go to Settings (top right-hand corner of the screen).
Tap Family Sharing, then select Add Member.
Tap Create an Account for a Child.
Tap Continue and follow the on-screen instructions.
Enter your child’s email address and date of birth (this cannot be changed later).
While the user is under 18, their parent or legal guardian will receive copies of all correspondence and have full access to their account.
If a young user is struggling with difficult concepts, homework, or teacher support, finding a Guruu can be an excellent way to keep up in class.
However, there are limitations on what can be requested:
Allowed: Guidance, tutoring, concept explanations, and skill-building sessions.
Not Allowed: Asking Guruus to complete assignments or sit tests on behalf of a learner.
We encourage everyone to review our Community Standards for details on acceptable requests. A full list of prohibited services is also outlined in our policies.
Some Guruu services involve direct interaction with children, such as tutoring sessions. Parents and guardians should choose tutors who specify they work with children.
Some Guruus have official background checks that confirm their suitability to work with children. For example, qualified school teachers often have this clearance automatically. If a Guruu states they have official working with children clearance, parents are encouraged to ask to see verification.
Guruu does not provide real-time monitoring of sessions.
However, all video sessions are recorded and accessible via the child’s dashboard.
Recordings are typically available within 15 minutes of session completion.
Parents or legal guardians can review recordings without breaching our Privacy Policy.
Guruu has strict policies regarding content that features, targets, or involves younger users. To learn more, read our Community Standards.
If you notice any suspicious behaviour, report it immediately by emailing help@guruu.co.

Guruu is a platform where people can learn almost anything, and we’re proud to have a diverse community of learners and experts. Even if you’re teaching now, you might find yourself booking a Guruu one day to learn something new!
As a knowledge-sharing platform, Guruu allows you to earn an income by sharing what you know—on your terms. You choose where and when you work, as well as how much you charge. If you have an internet connection and expertise that others value, you can start earning on Guruu.
To become a Guruu, you must be at least 15 years old. For more details on how we manage younger users, visit our Younger Users Information page.
Before getting started, be sure to review our guidelines—certain activities, like completing assignments for users, are not allowed. To understand what’s permitted, read our Community Standards and familiarise yourself with our Terms of Use.
For additional information, we recommend reading our General FAQs, which you can access here.
Only registered users can buy or sell knowledge on Guruu.
To get started, create a free profile, including your details, availability, and pricing. Your bio must accurately reflect your skills, experience, and qualifications, as outlined in our Community Standards, to help prevent payment disputes. Once your profile is live, users can find and book sessions with you based on your expertise, price, and availability.
After each session, users are encouraged to leave a rating and review, helping you build your reputation and attract more bookings.
Guruus must only conduct sessions through the Guruu platform and cannot accept payments outside of Guruu. By signing up, you agree to our Terms of Use and Community Standards, which may be updated from time to time.
Creating an account on Guruu is completely free. You only pay a commission when you successfully complete a session—once your learner releases payment, you’ll receive your fee minus Guruu’s commission.
Your profile is your chance to stand out and convince learners to choose you. Think of your bio as a sales pitch—it should clearly explain why you're the best fit for their needs.
A strong bio should include:
Keep your bio concise, engaging, and jargon-free, ensuring it’s easy for anyone to understand. Let your personality shine!
A clear, high-quality profile photo is essential. Look directly at the camera, smile, and use good lighting. A well-taken smartphone selfie works fine—just make sure it's sharp and high-resolution.
Important: Your profile must contain accurate and up-to-date information. Misleading or fraudulent accounts are strictly prohibited. You are responsible for your account activity and password security. Also, ensure your time zone is correct, as users will book sessions based on your listed availability.
When a user (learner) books a session with you, they pay in advance, and the funds are securely held until the session is completed. Once your user releases payment—or a dispute is resolved—your earnings are transferred to your nominated Paypal or Stripe account, minus Guruu’s 10% commission.
When you earn income through Guruu, you are not an employee of Guruu—you operate as an independent service provider. This means you are responsible for reporting and paying your own taxes in accordance with the laws of your country or state.
As an independent provider, you are not entitled to employee benefits such as superannuation or leave entitlements. For more details, please review our Terms of Use and FAQs on employment status.
All sessions are automatically recorded, and both you and your learner can download the recordings from your dashboards shortly after the session ends.
We recommend saving your recordings to your local device, as Guruu may delete older videos at its discretion, without prior notice, to manage storage capacity.
Privacy Notice: Session recordings cannot be published or publicly shared without the prior written consent of all recorded parties, except when shared with a parent or legal guardian of a minor. Failure to comply with this policy could result in legal action.
Guruu does not review recordings unless they are submitted as evidence in a dispute or complaint.
When setting up your profile, you’ll select a cancellation policy, which will apply to all your bookings.
Frequent or unjustified cancellations can negatively impact your reputation and status on Guruu. Late cancellations may also result in penalties, as they make it difficult to book another user in your available time slot.
Your pricing is entirely up to you, with no maximum rate—however, a minimum charge of AUD $25 per hour applies.
Your ideal rate depends on several factors, including your expertise, competition, education, experience, location, language, and—most importantly—your ratings and reviews. Many Guruus start with a lower rate to gain experience and build a strong reputation, then increase their pricing over time, but this is entirely at your discretion.
All pricing on Guruu is displayed in AUD. Be sure to review our Terms of Use and Payment Policies to fully understand how payments work.
As a Guruu, you operate as an independent contractor or business, meaning you are responsible for managing your own taxes and arranging any necessary insurance.
While liability insurance is not required to use Guruu, you should explore your options to protect yourself and your business. There are many providers available, so it's worth shopping around for the best coverage to suit your needs.
For reference, here are some options we found online (these are not endorsements):
We encourage you to research thoroughly and choose the coverage that best fits your circumstances.

Online reviews play a key role in building your reputation—more positive reviews can lead to more bookings and higher earnings. We understand that receiving negative feedback can be frustrating, but it’s important to stay calm and professional.
Take a step back and assess the feedback. Is it valid? Can you learn and improve from it? If you believe the review is unfair, consider reaching out to the user with a polite, professional message acknowledging their experience and, if appropriate, offering an apology. They may even give you another chance.

To maintain a respectful, inclusive, and safe environment for all users, we have established Community Standards to guide behaviour on our platform. These standards define what is acceptable across the Guruu marketplace, covering both in-session interactions and online communications.
