Guruu's Policy for Younger Users

Accounts for Users Under 18

Guruu operates differently for users under 18, as they have not yet reached the legal age of consent to enter contracts. Booking a Guruu involves forming a contract, which is why all users under 18 must have their accounts created by a parent or legal guardian.

For young children (under 13 years old), it is already standard practice for parents or guardians to set up digital accounts. This requirement also applies to all users under 18 on Guruu.

There are no minimum age requirements for users wanting to learn something—many school-age children use Guruu for tutoring. However, if a young person wants to become a Guruu, they must be at least 15 years old due to legal work permit requirements in some jurisdictions.

How to Create an Account for a Young User

Setting up an account for a user under 18 is simple. A parent or legal guardian must first create their own account before adding a younger user.

Steps to Create a Child’s Account:

  1. Go to Settings (top right-hand corner of the screen).

  2. Tap Family Sharing, then select Add Member.

  3. Tap Create an Account for a Child.

  4. Tap Continue and follow the on-screen instructions.

  5. Enter your child’s email address and date of birth (this cannot be changed later).

While the user is under 18, their parent or legal guardian will receive copies of all correspondence and have full access to their account.

What Young Users Can and Can’t Request

If a young user is struggling with difficult concepts, homework, or teacher support, finding a Guruu can be an excellent way to keep up in class.

However, there are limitations on what can be requested:

  • Allowed: Guidance, tutoring, concept explanations, and skill-building sessions.

  • Not Allowed: Asking Guruus to complete assignments or sit tests on behalf of a learner.

We encourage everyone to review our Community Standards for details on acceptable requests. A full list of prohibited services is also outlined in our policies.

Safety & Security for Users Under 18

Some Guruu services involve direct interaction with children, such as tutoring sessions. Parents and guardians should choose tutors who specify they work with children.

Working with Children Clearance

Some Guruus have official background checks that confirm their suitability to work with children. For example, qualified school teachers often have this clearance automatically. If a Guruu states they have official working with children clearance, parents are encouraged to ask to see verification.

Session Monitoring & Recording

  • Guruu does not provide real-time monitoring of sessions.

  • However, all video sessions are recorded and accessible via the child’s dashboard.

  • Recordings are typically available within 15 minutes of session completion.

  • Parents or legal guardians can review recordings without breaching our Privacy Policy.

Protecting Younger Users

Guruu has strict policies regarding content that features, targets, or involves younger users. To learn more, read our Community Standards.
