Whether you are a chemistry major or a cake decorator, a tarot card reader or a brilliant mathematician, there are people interested in what you know.
Whether you’re working from a home office, or sitting in a cafe somewhere, if you have a computer and Internet connection, and knowledge that other people want to pay for, you can earn an income using Guruu.
Guruu is a billable cloud-based platform where you can create your profile, set your own prices and availability, respond to learners looking for help, and deliver your sessions via in-built video conferencing.
Once you’ve finished your session, your student releases payment to you. Sounds simple, right? That’s because it is.
No more traffic jams. No more juggling of calendars. No more health or security concerns. Just share what you know and get paid for it.
1. Set up a free Guruu profile.
Set up a free Guruu account and complete your profile (areas of expertise, formal qualifications, level of experience, skills and knowledge). Add a clear, genuine photo of yourself to increase your chances of being booked. You can even embed a video explaining why people should work with you.
You can choose to be verified via a third-party digital ID service. If this option is chosen, and the verification is successful, we’ll apply a verified badge on your profile and offer you preferential treatment in our site search engines.
When you set up your profile, you must choose your correct time zone so that available time slots are displayed accurately to learners.
2. Set up your availability and price.
Once your profile is complete, you’ll be asked to set up your availability and price. Prices are displayed in US dollars and do not include applicable sales taxes (such as VAT or GST).
3. Bookings and Payments.
When a student books your available time slot, they will prepay their session. After the session is done, and the student has marked it as completed, the funds are released to you in accordance with our payment policy.
Your session is delivered to your student via Guruu’s video conferencing service. Video sessions are automatically recorded and both instructors and students can download recordings from their dashboards shortly after completion.
Bookings can be rescheduled or cancelled. When you set up your profile, you can choose which cancellation policy options best suits you, and this cancellation policy is published to your profile page.
4. Ratings and Reviews.
Once a session is complete, your student can give you a rating – and you can rate your student, too. Ratings will be displayed on your profile page as an aggregate score.
The more positive ratings you have, the more likely you are to attract new students, since positive feedback gives other students confidence to book you.
We want to reward and empower our top performing instructors.
If you deliver on time and maintain high quality and ratings, we may award you with a special status or provide you with preferential ranking in our search engine to help you attract even more learners.

Working with users under 18 years.
Guruus can choose to work with teens and children (12 years and under). Special security sensitivities may apply when it comes to working with minors. If you select this option on your profile, parents may ask you for evidence that you are fit to work with children, especially if your profile promotes that you hold a police clearance or similar formal government working with children accreditation.
Many parents use tutors to assist their children with school. Having video recordings that record interactions between adults and minors helps protect the reputations of our guruus.
Accounts used by users aged 17 years or under must be set up by a parent or legal guardian.
How is Guruu funded?
Like other marketplaces, Guruu is funded through a commission structure. We take a 15% commission on fees, which covers our costs and allows us to invest in developing our platform. Make sure you take our commission into account when you’re setting your prices.
All prices on Guruu are shown in US dollars. The minimum price you can charge on Guruu is $15 per hour.
When you get paid from Guruu, you’ll see we have automatically deducted our commission from your payment. To receive payments from Guruu, you’ll need to have a Paypal or Stripe account.
