General FAQs (Accounts, Safety, Recordings, Disputes)

General information about Guruu: accounts, profiles, safety, recordings, disputes, cancellations, and more.

Guruu makes knowledge-sharing simple, safe, and global.

Why it matters: you can learn (or earn) without travel, awkward logistics, or moving between apps.

How it works: for learners: find a Guruu → book → meet on-platform. For Guruus: create a profile → set your availability and price → get booked and build reviews.

Good to know: the review system helps the best Guruus rise over time—so you can read real experiences before booking.

Anyone can use Guruu to learn. There's no minimum age for learners, but accounts for anyone under 18 must be created and managed by a parent/guardian. To become a Guruu (service provider), you must be at least 15 years old—and if you're under 18, a parent/guardian manages your account.

Why it matters: this keeps minors legally protected and makes responsibility clear.

How it works: guardians create/manage minor accounts → guardians supervise learning and have access to recordings for minors.

Good to know: if you're under 18, you're treated as a minor even if you're close to your birthday—rules apply until you're 18.

Creating a profile is free and easy.

Why it matters: a clear profile is what gets you booked (or helps you find the right match).

How it works: click Sign Up → if you're a Guruu, add bio/skills/location/pricing/availability → if you're a learner, add basic details and your time zone so sessions display correctly.

Good to know: payments are handled securely via Stripe and Guruu does not store your card details.

People under 18 can't legally enter binding contracts, which is why a parent or legal guardian must create and manage the account.

Why it matters: it protects minors and keeps legal responsibility with the guardian.

How it works: guardian creates the account → adds the young user → manages payments and oversight.

Good to know: for full details, see guruu.co/younger-users.

Guruu is designed to make learning safer for minors through transparency and accountability.

Why it matters: minors require stronger safeguards and clearer adult supervision.

How it works:

  • Guardian-managed accounts (payments + responsibility stay with the guardian)
  • On-platform messaging + sessions (safer than moving to DMs)
  • Recorded sessions for accountability and guardian oversight
  • Ratings and reviews so guardians can check past experiences

Good to know: for the full minors safety model, see guruu.co/younger-users.

Yes. Guruu uses secure technology to protect user data and does not sell or share personal information for marketing.

Why it matters: trust starts with data privacy.

How it works: your account information is protected and handled under Guruu's Privacy Policy.

Good to know: if you ever receive a message asking for passwords or sensitive info, treat it as suspicious—Guruu will never ask for your password via email.

Yes. Log in and go to Settings to update your information or password.

Why it matters: accurate details prevent booking issues (especially time zones).

How it works: open Settings → edit your details → save.

Good to know: for guardian-managed accounts, some details (like a child's date of birth) can't be changed directly.

Email help@guruu.co and include as much context as you can (booking ID, screenshots, and what you were trying to do).

Why it matters: the faster support can identify the booking/session/account, the faster it can help you.

How it works: send an email to help@guruu.co → describe the issue → include any relevant IDs or screenshots.

Good to know: if your issue is urgent (e.g., a session about to start), include the session time in your subject line.

Session times are shown in your local time zone, no matter where you are.

Why it matters: it prevents missed sessions when you travel or book across countries.

How it works: Guruu detects/uses your local time zone and displays booking times accordingly.

Good to know: if you travel, double-check your device time zone settings before a session.

You can request account deletion from Settings. Account deletion is intended to be permanent, and support generally can't "undo" a completed deletion.

Why it matters: deletion removes access and can affect your ability to view bookings, messages, and recordings.

How it works: Settings → Delete account → follow prompts → confirm deletion request.

Good to know: deleting your account doesn't automatically delete all platform records immediately (some records may be retained for safety, disputes, chargebacks, or legal reasons).

If you have payouts still processing (or other unresolved payment activity), account deletion may be temporarily blocked until those payments are completed or resolved.

Why it matters: it prevents funds getting stuck mid-transfer and protects both users and providers.

How it works: wait for pending payouts to complete → then retry deletion from Settings.

Good to know: if you're unsure what's pending, check your earnings/payout status first—especially for teen accounts under guardianship.

Guruu automatically records every session. Recording is a standard safety and dispute-resolution requirement—and it's also useful for learning because you can rewatch key explanations later.

Why it matters: recordings protect both parties and help learners retain knowledge.

How it works: recording happens automatically → it appears in your dashboard after the session → you can download it for your own reference (where enabled).

Good to know: we recommend saving recordings locally, because older recordings may be deleted under retention rules.

Recordings follow a retention timeline: full quality early on, then archived, then deleted—unless flagged for safety/disputes/legal reasons.

Why it matters: it keeps evidence available long enough for disputes or safety review, without storing content forever.

How it works: recordings may be kept in full quality initially → may be archived later → deleted after the retention period unless flagged.

Good to know: if you want a personal copy, download it while it's available.

Recordings contain personal information, so sharing needs consent.

Why it matters: public sharing can create privacy and safety risks for everyone involved.

How it works: you can download a recording for private reference (where enabled). Any public sharing (posting online, social media, etc.) should only happen with written consent from all participants.

Good to know: guardians can view/review recordings for minors, but even a guardian cannot publish or distribute recordings publicly without written consent from all participants.

Yes. Guruu may contact users via email from official @guruu.co addresses (e.g., noreply@guruu.co) and via in-app messages.

Why it matters: scammers often imitate platforms.

How it works: check the sender domain → verify the request makes sense → log in directly at guruu.co if unsure.

Good to know: if you receive an unexpected message, don't click links—log in directly and check notifications inside your account.

Guruu uses practical safety hygiene to protect accounts.

Why it matters: most security issues come from phishing or password reuse.

How it works: don't share passwords → only log in via guruu.co → don't open suspicious attachments/links → contact support if something looks wrong.

Good to know: Guruu will never ask for your password by email.

If you're unsure about an email:

Why it matters: clicking one link can compromise your account.

How it works: don't click links or download attachments → log in directly at guruu.co → forward the message to support for verification.

Good to know: if the email tries to pressure you urgently ("act now"), treat that as a red flag.

Both learners and Guruus can cancel bookings, but each Guruu sets their own cancellation policy, displayed on their profile before booking.

Why it matters: cancellation rules protect both time and money.

How it works: if a learner cancels, refunds depend on the Guruu's policy; if a Guruu cancels, the learner receives a full refund.

Good to know: if your schedule is uncertain, choose a Guruu with a more flexible cancellation policy.

We strongly discourage it.

Why it matters: if you move off-platform, you lose Guruu's payment protection, dispute support, and review system.

How it works: keep booking, messaging, payments, and sessions on-platform so protections and evidence remain available.

Good to know: most marketplace scams start with "move off-platform."

Disputes are allowed only under specific circumstances and are reviewed using platform evidence (messages, booking records, and recordings where relevant).

Why it matters: it keeps disputes fair and prevents misuse.

How it works: try to resolve directly first → if eligible, raise a dispute → evidence is reviewed → a platform decision is made.

Good to know: simply being unhappy isn't automatically a valid reason to withhold payment—clear expectations and evidence matter.

Guruu is funded through platform fees (a service fee to learners and a commission from Guruus) to support platform maintenance, secure payments, and ongoing improvements.

Why it matters: it explains why Guruu can provide safety features, support, and secure transactions.

How it works: fees are applied within the platform at booking and payout.

Good to know: pricing is shown upfront before booking so you can decide with clarity.

AI is powerful — and we're not opposed to it. We think AI and people will coexist. Streaming music didn't cancel live concerts, and AI won't cancel human learning. Guruu is for the moments where human context, conversation, feedback, and lived experience matter — especially for kids and teens, who often can't reliably "prompt" an AI the right way to get what they actually need.

Why it matters: a real person can ask clarifying questions, notice confusion, and adapt in real time.

How it works: you bring your goal → a Guruu helps you work through it live → you leave with clarity, feedback, and next steps.

Good to know: sessions are recorded, so you can revisit the human guidance later — and use AI alongside it if you want.

Why it matters: policies and features evolve over time.

How it works: this page is updated as the product and rules mature.
